OF WORKING-CLASS MOTHERS ON THEIR CHILDREN ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
ABSTRACT
The purpose
of this study was to investigate the effects of working class mothers on their
children academic performance in Odeda Local Government Area of Abeokuta in
Ogun State. Five secondary schools where selected out of the numerous secondary
school in Odeda Local Government. Questionnaire was used to collect data and
these data were analyzed using percentage. The result indicates that children
whose mothers combine the roles of working class and motherhood perform very
well in the school than the children of full working class mothers who spent
most of their time outside the home. The researcher also made some useful
suggestions and recommendations which I sincerely believe would help to
minimize, the rate of poor performance of children in Odeda Local Government
Area of Abeokuta in particular and Nigeria in general, if they are strictly
adhered to some of these recommendations are; the working class mother’s should
have time to supervise their children academic work in school, and teachers, on
the other hand, should learn how to call the attention of parents to their
children academic performance, their behaviour and attitude in school among
others.

contributing to as “traditional” life trajectory for a working – class mother
and the author concludes that while neither traditional nor traditional working
class mother might become greatly involved in formed aspects of schooling, and
it is clear that this relationship with their children strongly influence their
academic experience or performance and also some of the working class mothers
perform poorly chic to lack of full attention on their children and enough fine
for the working class mother to stay with their children at home. Hence, this
has contributed to lack of proper motherly care and peer feeing which results
at times to permanent physical handicap or unit duely death, peer development
